The Lakeville City Council approved franchise fees on December 2, 2024, which will be charged to all electric and natural gas customers within the city.

These fees, collected through utility bills starting in April 2025, will fund fire station improvements and a regional public safety training facility. Residential customers will pay $6 per month, with higher fees for commercial and industrial accounts.

Dakota Electric will collect the fees and remit them to the city. More details are available at the City of Lakeville website.

The State of Minnesota established the Cold Weather Rule to protect residential heat-affected consumers — who make and keep a payment plan — from disconnection of service between Oct. 1 and April 30.

Most Cold Weather Rule payment plans last until April 30 unless you make other arrangements with Dakota Electric. Your service could be shut off if you have a past due balance on April 30 and do not make and keep a new payment plan.
