NRECA Youth Tour – Washington, D.C.
Each year Dakota Electric sends five local high school sophomore, junior or seniors on an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. for the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s (NRECA) Youth Tour. The next youth tour Minnesota will participate in will be June 18-23, 2024.

Scholarships
Every year Dakota Electric uses funds from unclaimed capital credits to award scholarships to students from area high schools and colleges to support their continued education. Each individual school selects the scholarship recipient. If you attend one of the following schools, contact your guidance counselor for more information.

School Programs
Safety Programs
To help keep children safe around electricity, Dakota Electric offers two safety programs. Play It Safe Around Electricity is designed for children in preschool to third grade. Power Line Safety Demonstrations are available for children ages 10+ and presented by a former power line specialist.
McGruff Safe Kids Identification Kits
Each year Dakota Electric donates McGruff Safe Kids Identification Kits for local police departments to use in educating kindergarten classes on staying safe. Each kit contains safety tips along with a personal identification section and finger-printing kit for parents to use to create an up-to-date file on their child.
