FARMINGTON, Minn. (12:00 p.m., July 6, 2016) — Dakota Electric Association crews finished up repairs before noon today, restoring the last of the more than 3,000 accounts that were out of power due to yesterday’s storm that moved through Minnesota.
The outages were scattered throughout the service territory with the hardest hit area being the city of Burnsville. Crews had the majority of outages repaired overnight and finished up the rest before noon today. Most outages were due to lightning strikes and high winds knocking trees or branches into power lines. In some cases, significant tree clearing had to take place before power lines could be fixed and power restored.
A safety reminder for all the public: Always stay away from downed power lines, and call 911 to report safety hazards. Dakota Electric has an outage map available at www.dakotaelectric.com to keep members informed of the status of outage restoration.
