FARMINGTON, Minn. (7 p.m., Sept. 17, 2021) —Dakota Electric crews have made significant progress on the outages caused by last night’s severe storms. There are less than 500 out of power this evening and crews will continue to work into the night restoring power until everyone is back on.
Outages began about 3 a.m. as a severe storm moved through Dakota County and the southern metro area of the Twin Cities causing more than 12,000 members to lose power in Dakota Electric’s service territory.
The hardest hit areas were Burnsville, Apple Valley and Eagan, but widespread damage was reported across the service territory.
All of the substations and mainlines were restored earlier in the day, but restoration slowed as the work moved to the smaller lines feeding individual businesses, homes and neighborhoods. Progress will continue into the night as crews are working through physical obstacles in member yards and areas which require extensive tree clearing.
